The name Eosin comes from a Greek word “eos” (flush of dawn), referring to the light red iridescence of the first hue produced. Along with numerous eosin colors a number of finishing methods were also developed in the Zsolnay factory, for instance hand-painted, etched, and marbled eosins. The company has been producing eosin, this many-colored, iridescent final glaze, the production secrets of which have been closely guarded, since 1893.
